Here are your highlights for this week:
Practice of the week
A good session focused on improving possession play. Not possession for possession’s sake, but to attack better and score goals:
For younger age groups, having more of an overload (with 2-3 neutral players) may help.
Topic of the week
As community coaches, we’re typically short of time. Identifying development themes, planning for training and matches, running the sessions… So spending some additional time to come up with individual goals, for every player in our team(s), can seem like one step too far.
But a recent article from the Coaching Manual (subscription required, sorry!) explained how differentiation, and coming up with individual challenges, is really what players need and deserve. And it needn’t take much time - so I’m definitely going to give it a try.
Coaching point of the week
A fairly old video of Pep Guardiola explaining the role of body position. A good coaching point to send to players, again and again.
I hope you enjoyed this. Have a great week!
