Here are your highlights for this week:

Practice of the week

A pretty straightforward attacking drill, combining many core components of direct attacking: receiving and turning, quick 1-2, a through ball and finish.

Topic of the week

Giving feedback to players - something I’m always trying to improve. So I found this article from the English FA’s Hive Learning (free registration required) very interesting.

In short, provide acknowledgement rather than praise (ie make it objective rather than subjective), and keep it very specific.

Article of the week

A great interview, courtesy of the Guardian, of Liverpool FC’s assistant coach on how they prepared for the Champions’ League final, how they practice the counterpress, his relationship with Klopp, and his attention to details.

Really nice to see how their behind-closed-doors practice of early long balls to Mane, after recovering possession, paid off:

Liverpool played Benfica's B team in Marbella before the Champions League final for specific tactical preparation. It worked out well, didn't it?
