The 5-Minute Football Coach - Issue #7
Attacking drill, French youth coaching, Expectations and reality
Here is your selection of links for this week, enjoy!
Drill of the week
A nice and simple drill to improve passing, control and finishing. Nice stuff!
Document of the week
Curious about how youth football is organised in other countries? What about in the reigning world champion? It turns out the French Football Federation has created pretty expansive guides for each year group (150 pages each, in French).
Notable differences compared to England:
The use of 8-a-side teams and equal play time all the way up to Under-13
A 6-week winter break from outdoors football, during which the focus is on futsal, with the season finishing in mid-June, so much later but also nicer weather-wise
Fewer league games, plus many ‘special’ days combining a 15’ technical challenge with a couple of matches
And each guide includes a complete season plan, with suggested themes to focus on each week and session plans. Pretty impressive.
Tweet of the week
Football coaching is rarely a straightforward journey!
I hope this was useful, and as a bit of a favour, if you could please share this with other coaches, it would really help make the newsletter better. Much appreciated!
Have a great week
